NOVELS.

Six of my books published in 1996 were novels based on the Carry On films. They have caused enormous controversy, with Carry On buffs calling for my blood. You can get a taste of the punishment I am having to take by dropping in on Andy Davidson's excellent Carry On Line site.

Search for Giller and you will find butchering reviews of my books, and one or two favourable comments. Infamy, infamy .... everybody's got it in for me. What a Carry On!

You will also find a serialisation of my Carry On Abroad novel on the site. Read it and you will no doubt find out why the books have attracted so much criticism from die-hard Carry On fans. Well, I thought they were funny.

The six books in the series, all published by Chameleon Books, a subsidiary of Andre Deutsch, are: Carry On Doctor ... Abroad ... Henry ... Loving ... England ... Up the Khyber.

I have also written four football-based novels in harness with Jimmy Greaves, an 'autobiography' of Coronation Street character Mike Baldwin and an as yet unpublished novel about a war hero's life called Wild Justice.

There are at least three other unfinished novels lying at the bottom of drawers waiting for attention, plus a boxing book called The Contenders which took the count because the publisher considered it too far fetched. I wrote it in 1981 and I had a Russian winning the world heavyweight title. My timing was wrong (and, no doubt, my writing lacking punch).

I am currently into the early stages of a novel that I am writing with Hollywood in mind. But I will not tell you a thing about it because of my Golden Rule No 8. Don't talk a book, write it.
