My career as a newspaperman spans more than 40 years without break, first of all as a staffman on a procession of papers, and then – since November 1973 – as a freelance. After laying a foundation as a quick-on-my-feet copyboy on the London Evening News (1955-57), I became a have-typewriter-will-travel reporter with the following newspapers ...

-1958: News and sports reporter on the local West Ham paper, the Stratford Express
-1960: Reporter and lay-out designer on the fight game's trade paper Boxing News, at 92 Fleet Street
-1962: Back to West Ham as Sports Editor of the Stratford Express
-1962: Three summer months as a holiday relief sports sub-editor on the London Evening Standard
-1964: Sports sub-editor, layout designer and weekend reporter on the Daily Herald
-1973: Football reporter and then chief football reporter (1966-73) on the Daily Express. Devised and wrote weekly columns in the Express called Saturday Sports Forum, Soccerman Friday and Sportscope.
-1974: Chief Associate Peter Lorenzo Associates, when I devised and organised a long-running Charrington's pub quiz called What's Yours? ... helped with the PR for the Texaco Cup ... was part of the TV production team on the first series of The Superstars ... was a member of the Sunday Mirror football reporting team.
-2000: Freelance columnist assignments with the London Evening News (TV sports columnist), Sunday Telegraph (boxing correspondent), Sunday Express (TV sports columnist), The Sun (TV sports columnist), and ghosted columns for Jimmy Greaves with The Sun and the Daily Mirror. Eric Morecambe ghosted columns with the Daily Express. Magazine columns with Titbits and Football Monthly. Saturday Giants and Starfile, weekly features which ran for three years in the London Evening News
Currently: The Judge for The Sun and The Silver Surfer on the supergoals.com website produced by The Sun.
